MFAU: In Service Since 1961.
Our Mission:
Goal One
To consistently provide high level emergency medical response, care and transport to our community every time we are called.
When someone in our district dials 911 because of a medical emergency MFAU is ready. A “duty crew” of a EMT and driver is currently on call twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
MFAU has second ambulance standing ready at all times with community based members equipped with communication systems and equipment to respond when needed.
Goal Two
To secure and maintain funding adequate for a modern Basic Life Support ambulance service.
Our community has a growing population of elderly and aging residents. It also has a surprisingly high number of economically challenged households. These dynamics and others have resulted in steadily increasing demands on the Emergency Medical System and on MFAU. Economic realities have also resulted in steadily decreasing levels of volunteerism across a broad spectrum of non-profit organizations, especially volunteer ambulance services.
MFAU has responded to these challenges. By hiring paid EMTs and drivers to supplement our volunteer team the agency has been able to create an unprecedented high level service for our community. It is fundamental to our mission to secure adequate resources for the long term survival and health of MFAU.
Goal Three
To protect and build upon the sixty year tradition of community building that MFAU provides in the Rondout Valley.
Harriet Weber founded MFAU in 1961. Her work and that of countless others established a powerful tradition of service in our community. Partnered with regional fire departments, MFAU’s members have quilted together the safety net that our regional 911 systems depends upon. In doing so the agency has provided a platform from which careers in medicine have been launched and a lifelong ethic of service built.
Dozens of current and former members have used the training, experience and mentorship they received at MFAU as stepping stone toward careers as EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, Midwives, Physical Therapists and Physicians.
MFAU has been and continues to be a pillar of our community in which people come together to give back and to serve our neighbors.
